The newly established Max Planck-Sciences Po Center on Coping with Instability in Market Societies (see http://www.mpspc.eu) invites applications for one or more PhD student positions. The recipient of the PhD fellowship will be formally enrolled through the Ecole Doctorale de Sciences-Po under the supervision of Marion Fourcade (see www.marionfourcade.org<http://www.marionfourcade.org>).

The thesis project should be linked to the research rubrics singled out by the Max-Planck-Sciences Po center for special emphasis, though empirical research topics may be quite varied. These broad research themes include but are not limited to: The political consequences of economic crises, including political conflicts over attributions of responsibility. The moral boundaries of economic discourses, instruments and policies: for instance, the definition and punishment of economic crimes; the political uses of incentives; the new forms of surveillance in employment policies or social policies; the implementation of bailouts (corporate, bank, nations) ... Changes in socio-technical devices in credit markets, employment, health, environment, financial markets
Eligibility: The candidate will hold a master's degree (or equivalent) and have received at least some training in one or more of these disciplines: sociology, economics, history, management, political science, or philosophy. S/he must have experience with qualitative and quantitative methods. There is no nationality requirement, however working knowledge of English and/or French is necessary.
Fellowship amount: $2,100 / month (gross salary, about 1,600$ net); 3-year contract; one 12-weeks teaching or administrative requirement, preferably in the first year of the fellowship (to be negotiated with the PhD adviser).
